Your Gift guide for this Holiday Season
Tis the season of gifting! If you are anything like me, you are running late and out of ideas of what to get your loved ones. You want to give something thoughtful, useful, and meaningful. Something that sparks joy! You definitely do not want to contribute to the pile of “things” we receive but never use each year.
So after researching and searching the internet for hours, I came up with the 8 most meaningful things that will make up for the gifts I will give out this year.
Experience instead of things
I found this to be the most interesting and hence on the top of my list. How often do we indulge ourselves in a Cooking Class we have been eyeing for long or the chocolate and wine tasting evening to spend with our significant other? Not very often. But these are the things your loved ones will actually enjoy and talk about for the entire year! Does your mom love to bake? Gift her a baking class. Does your sister like pottery? Gift her an hour at her favorite clay store. This year, I am giving my Husband and I a cooking class at Sur-la-table.
Subscription service
One of the gifts that my daughter has enjoyed the most was a subscription to National Geographic Kids magazine. It came every month for a year and she used to actually wait for it. There are a lot of fun subscription services for kids and adults alike. Find the one that will interest them. This will be something they will look forward to the entire year!
Keep it personal
Well, I know it's easier said than done, but getting something personal is the way to go! I once gave my husband a Photo Book with pictures of all the special occasions. It was so sweet to relive them all together!
A personalized Journal, ornament, sweater or photo books are some of the ideas that could work very well.
Handmade is the best!
Of all the things listed here, this one tops my list! To receive something handmade is such a blessing. My mom embroidered a handkerchief for my daughter and she takes it with her everywhere.
If you can sew, knit, crochet, paint, carve, craft, cook or bake you can make something handmade and be sure they will love and appreciate the gesture!
Gift that gives
How wonderful is this! Every year my company donates on the behalf of their employees to a charity of their choosing. We get to pick a cause that's close to our heart and make the donation. This is such a special way to appreciate someone.
Or you can take it further and have them come with you when you donate books to Children's Hospital or you can get together to write cards and wrap gifts for underprivileged kids or spend a night donating care packages to the homeless in your area. The possibilities are endless!
Photoshoot
I kept the most memorable one for the last! If you have been scratching your head for a long time and you want to give your loved ones a gift of Beautiful Memories, gift them a Maternity, Newborn or Family Photo session. What better way than to help a family preserve their memories forever!
