Fall Family Bucket List for the Bay Area
My favorite season is here… Fall!
And I know it's your favorite season too, isn’t it?
Well to be honest I love summer for all the slow dull days but the magic that Fall brings has no equal!
Suddenly everything is more beautiful. I am sure it also has to do with the fact that you are not breaking into sweat for every minute you are spending outside of air conditioning.
The beautiful vibrant trees, the smell of pumpkin bread baking in the oven and the pumpkin spice latte! What’s not there to love?
It's the most favorite season for my kids too, for a whole different reason(halloween candies!!! Am I right?)
Well, apart from Halloween there are a lot of activities that we absolutely love to do in the fall and here’s a list of our absolute favorite ones.
Hiking in Fall with Family
I mean do you even live in the Bay Area if your weekend plans don’t include hiking the favorite Bay Area trails?
I hope not!
Now before the look of horror flash on your face, I am adding the disclaimer that we too, only go for kid-friendly hikes. Our absolute favorite place to hike over and over again is Rancho San Antonio in Cupertino.
Not only does this place offer kid friendly hikes, it is beautiful and has a small farm that my kids absolutely love!
They do sell fresh eggs there but somehow we are always late to the party and the eggs always run out! Maybe you will be more lucky than we are!
Another Fall Favorite Activity: Apple Picking
Apple picking is a family favorite or dare I say, I enjoy apple picking more than the kids!
The whole idea of getting ripe fruits off of trees and tasting them along the way, brings back the child in me! I am sure it brings back the child in you too!
We usually spend a good amount of time going through trees, taking breaks to enjoy some fruit and continue with our hunt again.
We obviously pay for all the extra fruit we devour along the way.
Our favorite place for apple picking is Gizdich Ranch. We love their little bakery, they make delicious apple pies. You can not leave this farm without their apple pies!
Oh and the cider! My daughter can never have enough of their apple cider.
I guess a win win for both mom and kids!
Bake Fall Favorites
What goes well with the crisp air and sweater weather?
A Pumpkin Spice Latte with fresh warm pumpkin bread!
Now I am not a baker, actually far from it. But every fall I just feel the need to bake some fall favorites. This is definitely a Fall Favorite Activity for us!
Each year, we spend some amazing time in our kitchen trying to bake pumpkin bread and licking off the raw batter.
It sure leaves us with sugar high kids but it's so worth it!
Pro tip, try to pick your pumpkin puree well in advance, most stores run out by the time October rolls in!
I guess everybody has same ideas 🙂
Enjoy bonfire
Now that summer heat is behind us, it's the perfect weather to gather around the fire and roast some marshmallows.
The glow and warmth of fire can light up anybody’s mood!
And what's a more perfect way to spend some quality family time together. Share some stories and some laughter. Make memories they will remember forever!
Some of my most fondest memories of childhood were built around a bonfire.
Pumpkin Patch
Is it even October if you don’t visit a pumpkin patch?
I know what you are thinking! Who wants to spend their weekend standing in lines trying to get on a Hayride? Not me!
So here’s what we do. Instead of going after the most popular pumpkin attractions in the Bay Area, we go local and visit Queens Pumpkin Patch in Saratoga.
We try to head there on a weekday instead of a weekend. Weekdays are so much more tame and sometimes we get the entire place to ourselves!
Pumpkin Carving
I mean, after you visit your favorite pumpkin patch, you have to come home with a pumpkin and carve it! Am I right?
As messy as it can get, this is one activity that kids love and can’t get enough of!
Who can blame them??
Whether you go all in and carve the most intricate pumpkin or you just go with the standard eyes, nose and mouth, your kids are going to love carving pumpkins with you. So just go for it!
Family Photoshoot
Fall is the most popular and busiest season for the photographers for a reason!
There is beauty everywhere and no one can resist the charm of a good old fall photoshoot.
And believe it or not, these little munchkins grow up way too fast!
So capture those memories, the love and connection of your beautiful family.
After all, Happy memories are the biggest legacy you can pass on to your children.
