Style Guide for Newborn Photo session
When I was pregnant with my daughter, I used to buy these beautiful fancy, frilly dresses for her with matching headbands and bows. I even hand knit a beautiful dress with matching boots for her. But when she was born, I realized my daughter did not care about any of those frills and bows. If anything, she would get really cranky when we tried to dress her up for some occasions. We finally gave up trying to fidget her in fancy dresses when I figured out that a comfortable baby is the happiest baby!
So when you are deciding on outfits for your newborn photoshoot, here are the 4 things you should think about:
Is this a comfortable outfit?
Comfort outweighs fancy outfits any day! If your baby is comfortable they are so much more likely to be happy and content at the Photoshoot.
Does it feel soft on the skin?
A lot of time outfits have frills or lace which looks beautiful but is very scratchy on the skin. Your newborn skin is so much more sensitive. The last thing we want is a rash on a newborn after the photoshoot.
Is it easy to get a baby in and out of this outfit?
Newborns go though multiple outfits in a day. Accidents are inevitable! So pick outfits that are easy to get on and off. Getting an outfit out of a crying baby is a feat.
Is it safe for my baby to sleep in this outfit?
Babies do eventually fall asleep during or after the photoshoot. All the posing and snuggling makes them tired. So choose the outfits that are safe to sleep in, do not have loose hanging cords or any other sleeping hazard.
Always dress the baby in the most comfortable and safest outfits.
Choose colors that go well with the surroundings.
Use blankets or swaddles to add texture.
And always remember, a comfortable baby is a happy baby.
